Miss Logan's class 8
26th April 2012
I was helping in miss Logan's class today but she was absent so the class had Mr Peacock, the supply teacher for the school.
The day started off with independent reading, then on to maths where they were learning about rounding numbers up to the nearest tens and hundreds. I concentrated on assisting one table that needed the most help.
The class then broke off for break time.
After break they then carried on with their maths lesson until lunch time.
After lunch time they started with their English lesson where they did comprehension, they read a story and were then given questions at the end and had to keep reffering back to the story for the answers. Again, i helped the under acheiving table and sat with one girl who mostly needed the help and attention as she was very quiet and shy.
They did their english lesson until break time, after break they carried on with indepedent reading and i took half of the class to their weekly violin lesson.
The violin lesson lasted half an hour and i then lead the children back to class to collect their belongings and sit at their tables reading until home time.
I spoke to the supply teacher Mr Peacock about teaching, he advised me to adapt a firm attitude so i can tell the children off and get their attention and told me to give out warnings in class when i thought appropriate. I mostly watched how he spoke to the children when they were being naughty and not listening or doing their work. I noticed that he was very friendly with the children which made them get on with him but when they lost concentration and began being disruptive he was very firm and told them to carry on with their work, which they did. I thought that i learnt more with Mr Peacock as he had a firm but fair teaching strategy that i could adapt to.
