19th April 2012
Miss McDermot's Class 6

The class started the morning off with independant reading from their home books.
They then moved on to English where they completed a task of making up their own poems with an AA, BB squence that was made up of their questions. The first part from one student was
'Why do you stick to glue?'
'Why is the sea blue?'
'Why is my friend bethany tall?'
'Why is my friend brodie small?'

I helped each of them with ideas and rhyming words to include in their poem.
They then went for their assembly followed by breaktime.
After break up until lunch time they moved on to maths. They were learning about telling digital time and how to convert it from the clock face. I sat with the under achieving table and helped them one at a time.
They then broke for dinner time.
After dinner, for the rest of the afternoon they had Art. They used watercolour pencils to illustrate their earlier english work. They painted the objects that they included in their poem. I set out the equipment and refilled their water pots when needed,at the end i helped clean the pots and brushes.

A new reward system was introduced to the school. where the children were rewarded with tokens for good behaviour, good work and abiding by the school rules, for example, to hold the door open for other pupils and teachers. Each token represented a house point as well and if 50 were collected the pupil was rewarded with a free school dinner.
I also observed miss McDermot's teaching system and noticed that she had made her own way of getting the children to stop what they are doing and be quiet, by raising her hands in the air and not speaking until all the children have done the same. These systems worked as the children worked even harder for tokens and paid more attention to the teacher.
