overview and reflection of the course
I have looked back on my past 2 years on this course, in my first year i was set out on becoming a costume designer for t.v and film. since then i have been on work experience and done my research to change my mind about the practicality of it all. it would have been my dream job and would have enjoyed doing it as a career, but i found out that i wouldnt be guaranteed a set income and it would be extremely competitive to get in to, thinking about long term and the future, meant that it would be difficult and stressful. I am happy that i realised whilst still on the course and i didnt try to get a job afterwards as i would have been in a difficult situation. I am happy that i had the time to think about what else i would like to do and start in that direction by volunteering for work experience at a primary school and start on my homelearning course along side my degree, because when i finish my course i will then be a qualified teaching assistant and i can get a job with that.
This course has helped me put alot of things in to perspective and i have an idea of how i am going to get ahead in life, i also feel comfortable enough to come back and ask for help from all my tutors if needed.
END OF YEAR SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the end of year show i am having one display board to show my eco dress, my anne boleyn dress, a photoframe with some painted shoes in to match my eco dress, the same photoframe with my photoshoot of my anne boleyn dress, a shelf with a wooden head on displaying my necklace from a previous project that relates to my anne boleyn project and my sketch book of my final project on another shelf so it can be looked through by the public.
i chose to have one board as i thought it would look like i havent done enough work if i spread everything across two.
The theme for the show is black and white. My job at the show is to heat up the food and prepare it, i also had to collect everybody's addresses and names of their guests and send them to sheila to be posted out.

I have been focusing on continuing my education in a home learning course in interior design to get my BA honours degree to then move on to my pgce but I have thought more about it and think it would be more ideal to do a top up in something that I am actually interested in. Even though i have left it late I am going to contact colleges and universities to see if I could start this year if not I will take a year out working and trying to gain as much experience I can before returning to education next year. I have definitely learnt that I need to manage my time better and organise myself more. It is annoying that I will be a year behind but it is a learning experience for the future.

Overview of work experience at Shelf J + I School
From my experience at Shelf J + I School i have got a very good outlook on what teaching is like. I sometimes thought it was frustrating when the children would'nt do their work and were being disruptive but i did enjoy helping them with their work, as it gave a sense of acheivement when you have managed to help a pupil with some thing they didnt understand.
When i decided i wanted to become a teacher/ teaching assistant i didnt have much of an idea of what it would be like and i was a bit worried that i would study to do some thing that i didnt end up liking, i am very pleased that i volunteered in my own time just to get a better understanding, because i have really enjoyed it and think that i would be able to do it.
I decided that i wanted to move from costumery to teaching because after my work experience on the set of DCI banks i realised that it would be very difficult to get in to, very competitive and not a secure income. It would have been something that i would have enjoyed working as but also would have been unrealistic for the future as i wouldnt have a guarnteed income and i think i would have found it stressful and turned to working in a normal 9-5 job.
It seems like a completely different route to costumery and design but i am also going to aim at becoming the costume designer for the school that i will end up working in, for their own plays and i would also like to become the head of the art department.
I am still studying my Teaching Assistant level 3 course and i have also been applying for full time teaching assistant jobs online.
I have also looked at the pay that is offered for these jobs online at calderdale council and have noticed that the pay scale is around £11,000-£14,000, which i thought was very low for an income and i was also told by Miss McDermot who has been working as a full time teacher for a year after her PGCE that she is currently on £22,000 and after her first year it will increase up to £2500 every year with experience, so i have definately decided to work towards becoming a Teacher. I was also advised to learn other things that could help my chances of being employed as an assistant, such as, First Aid, sign language and special educational needs teaching.

Miss Logan's class 8
26th April 2012
I was helping in miss Logan's class today but she was absent so the class had Mr Peacock, the supply teacher for the school.
The day started off with independent reading, then on to maths where they were learning about rounding numbers up to the nearest tens and hundreds. I concentrated on assisting one table that needed the most help.
The class then broke off for break time.
After break they then carried on with their maths lesson until lunch time.
After lunch time they started with their English lesson where they did comprehension, they read a story and were then given questions at the end and had to keep reffering back to the story for the answers. Again, i helped the under acheiving table and sat with one girl who mostly needed the help and attention as she was very quiet and shy.
They did their english lesson until break time, after break they carried on with indepedent reading and i took half of the class to their weekly violin lesson.
The violin lesson lasted half an hour and i then lead the children back to class to collect their belongings and sit at their tables reading until home time.
I spoke to the supply teacher Mr Peacock about teaching, he advised me to adapt a firm attitude so i can tell the children off and get their attention and told me to give out warnings in class when i thought appropriate. I mostly watched how he spoke to the children when they were being naughty and not listening or doing their work. I noticed that he was very friendly with the children which made them get on with him but when they lost concentration and began being disruptive he was very firm and told them to carry on with their work, which they did. I thought that i learnt more with Mr Peacock as he had a firm but fair teaching strategy that i could adapt to.
